My name is Ryan T. Morgan, a professional software developer since 2002. My work experience is varied and extensive. I’ve worked for Lockheed Martin, performing embedded software development for missile launchers on VxWorks and Linux. I spent a number of years with General Dynamics, coding in a distributed Linux environment, as well as some Windows desktop development in C# with Visual Studio. Since then I’ve mostly been working as an Army contractor at Aberdeen Proving Ground, developing a wide variety of applications. I worked in collaboration with the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory on new IEEE network protocols for remote management of wireless network nodes, in addition to the U.S. Army Research Laboratory on back-end tools for the detection of network anomalies and attempts at malicious network intrusions.
With Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Computer Science, my personal interests are wide and diverse. I am steadfast in my support of open source software and technology, and support and promote its use and adoption whenever I can. I believe in open standards and a World Wide Web that will one day be void of sites that only function with Internet Explorer and all its proprietariness (is that even a word?) Attention to detail is one of my primary traits (sometimes a strength, sometimes a disadvantage), and I always try to solve a problem the right way the first time, because cost and schedule often prohibit revisiting poorly-written code.
I enjoy learning about new technologies and challenging myself intellectually. I am well-versed in the entire Software Development Life Cycle, and have seen first-hand the benefits of following clearly defined development processes, as well as the pitfalls of ignoring or avoiding those processes. I am confident in my abilities, but also receptive to constructive criticism and the ideas and suggestions of others. I am pleasant and fun to be around, and try to be personable while maintaining an appropriate level of professionalism.
Personally, I am a Baltimore native, born and raised. In my spare time, I enjoy working on personal coding projects, as well as taking apart just about anything I can get my hands on (warranties were meant to be voided!) Give me a soldering iron, a drill, and a ratchet set and I will be quite content. I recently acquired a small fishing boat, and enjoy getting out on the water on nice days. When fall comes, you’ll find me spending time with family and friends cheering for the Baltimore Ravens (I don’t think I have a single piece of outerwear that does not bear the Ravens logo). In the evenings, I enjoy sitting with my tablet (open source Android-powered Nexus 10, of course) and reading up on just about anything Wikipedia has to offer.
Please feel free to browse my site (hosted on a Linux server and developed with WordPress and other open source tools for maximum interoperability with just about any platform or browser), and feel free to contact me if you think I’d make a good addition to your team, or you just want to learn more about me.
Have a great day!!
